The three songs selected for the talent show were "Runaround Sue" by Dion, "Tell Laura I Love Her" by Paul Peterson, and "Houndog" by Elvis Presley. The original lineup consisted of Dan Hauser, Keith Grothaus, Larry Wiegele, and Jim Hixenbaugh on vocals, Mike Connell on drums, Dan Shepherd on bass guitar, and Jim Kelly on guitar and vocals. We chose the name Ooh La La because it sounded like Sha Na Na. Somehow we found some and started rehearsing. We then went on a crusade to borrow equipment. We also found out one of the guys was a drummer, but didn't own a set of drums. There was only one problem now: we had one acoustic guitar not quite the instrumental makeup of a rock and roll band. After all, most old rock 'n' roll songs were three chords and relatively easy to sing. Someone suggested that old rock 'n' roll songs might be better for this semi-talented group of jocks. Shortly before this time, Sha Na Na, an oldies act who appeared at Woodstock, performed on campus.
